The second in a season-long series of gardening and cooking workshops!
We will break ground in the Farm Cooking School garden for the new season and prepare it for the new year! This hands-on, feet-in-the-mud workshop will give gardeners an overview of how to get their gardens off to a strong start for the year. The Farm Cooking School Garden is managed organically with no-till beds. This method is better for the soil, and thus better for the vegetables, and is a great method for home gardeners. We will model this method, adding compost and manure to beds, raking them into shape after the rigors of winter, mulching paths and beds. We will also start planting cool-season crops, such as lettuce, spinach, kale, and sweet peas. We will discuss mulch and soil amendment choices, as well as crop choices and seeding.
After we work for our lunch, Ian and Shelly will guide us through, and feed us a hearty spring meal of after our garden exertions.
*It is important that we get our young friends growing their own food early-on, so, as with all our kitchen garden workshops, kids come for 5 bucks! (Let us know if you're bringing them and how many via email.)
