We set up shop at Solebury Orchards today—and Ian's Apple Rumble Crumble was a big hit. And really, what's not to like about apples, rum, butter, sugar, and oats? The recipe is so easy, we promise anyone can make it. It's a quick crowd pleaser and a great way to use up all those apples you picked. If you didn't get a chance to stop by and try it, here's the recipe (below the glamour shot of Ian!).

Ian's Apple Rumble Crumble

For the crumble

1 stick unsalted butter

3/4 cup all purpose flour

1/2 cup quick cooking oats

1/3 cup dark brown sugar

1/2 tsp. kosher salt

For the apple rumble

1/2 cup dried cranberries or dried cherries

1/3 cup dark rum

5 baking apples such as Gala or McIntosh

1/4 cup honey or maple syrup

1/3 cup sugar

2 tbsp. all-purpose flour

1 tsp. lemon zest

Preheat the oven to 400°F.

Make the crumble: Working together all the crumble ingredients with your hands, then set aside.

Make the apple rumble: Soak the cranberries in rum for 30 minutes. Peel and core apples and cut into 1-inch pieces. Toss apples with the rest of the rumble ingredients, and place in a 9-inch pie plate.

Crumble the topping over the apples, then bake until the filling is bubbling and the crumble is browned, about 45 to 55 minutes. Cool slightly and serve with whipped cream or ice cream.
